About The Artist

Joanne Casling is now a well established artist and lives in the United Kingdom. Her work has been exhibited widely across the country, and she accepts private commissions.  She started her training as a community artist at Dartington College of Arts in Totnes. Whilst there she worked on several projects in a wide range of different media which included; dance pieces, murals, street theatre, fire sculptures and children’s summer workshops.

Joanne completed her fine art painting degree at Sheffield. It was whilst living in the city that she established and curated The Forum Gallery, where local artists could exhibit. Joanne was also a founder member of First Circle Arts Space, a studio collective set up to provide affordable work space in a redundant school. Throughout this time she continued to paint, and had several exhibitions around the city.

Joanne now lives near Stroud in Gloucestershire, and continues to paint. Her painting is abstract and experimental, she is particularly interested in colour, process and texture.  Joanne says;

" I have always been inspired by the process of making, and I am concerned with exploring and linking notions of space with ideas of personal expression. I’m very passionately committed to Art and its role in society."

Her most recent work includes large charcoal life drawings that focus on bodies and movements through space.
